The Beauty of Self-Care

It’s always baffled me why there’s such a stigma around mental health care. Looking after your mental well-being is just as important as staying physically healthy, and I bet most people would jump at the chance to make sure their mind is in a good place. You don’t have to shout your mental health journey from the rooftops, but I really think you should! Let everyone see the joy that comes from putting yourself first.

Life’s always throwing things at us—work, school, you name it. But it’s super easy to forget to hit pause and check in with yourself in the middle of all that. Ask yourself: Am I doing okay mentally? How long have I been grinding away? Is it time for a digital detox? Have I eaten and taken care of the basics?

As someone who is deeply passionate about mental health, but also loves all things cozy, cute, and most of the time chaotic. I wanted to share a few little ways. I take care of myself on the days when life feels overwhelming. These aren’t perfect, and they’re certainly not glamorous, but they’re real and they help me stay grounded. Hopefully, they can help you too.

🌸 2. Coloring While Listening to Chaotic Commentary Videos
I love coloring — especially with soft pastel palettes or spooky-cute themes — but I also love background noise. Something about combining visual creativity with audio distraction gives my brain a hug. Bonus points if the video has unhinged humor or storytimes.

🌙 3. Talking to Myself Like I’m Someone I Love
I’ll whisper little things like, “You’re doing your best,” or “You’re allowed to take a break now.” It sounds silly, but it helps. Especially when my brain is trying to be mean to me.

🧸 4. Wearing Something Ridiculously Cute
A soft hoodie, fuzzy socks, or even a kawaii sticker on my laptop — it reminds me that I’m allowed to have softness, even when I feel like a mess. Sometimes it’s armor. Sometimes it’s comfort. Sometimes it’s both.

💌 5. Making Playlists for Specific Moods
I have playlists titled things like “Insomnia” or “Sad Girl.” Making them feel creative and listening to them feels validating. Music is therapy. Vibes are real.

🐚 6. Letting the Hard Feelings Exist
Instead of trying to immediately fix my anxiety or sadness, I’m trying to just… let it sit with me. Like, “Okay, hi. You’re here. I don’t love this, but I’ll survive.” It makes everything a little less scary when I stop fighting it.

There’s nothing wrong with bubble baths, meditation apps, or herbal teas — but mental health isn’t a checklist. It’s deeply personal. It’s messy. It’s full of weird little habits and soft rituals that remind you: I’m still here. I’m still trying.

If you’re reading this, I hope it reminds you that your ways of coping — however odd or imperfect they may seem — are valid. You don’t have to be perfect to be worthy of care.

Sending you softness. 💗
